Last Thursday, the ACT family gathered in the blazing early September sunshine at the Surrey Downs Golf Club, for our Annual Golf Day and Dinner Event. As we anticipate the weather getting colder in the coming months, this was a chance to bid goodbye to the summer, and pay homage to the days we have spent outside in the sun. Even more importantly, this event also marked the start of our 25th anniversary celebrations!
After we had tired ourselves out with a spirited, and at times competitive golfing session, we eagerly settled down for a well-deserved dinner. This provided the ideal setting to catch up with both long-time donors and new supporters alike, as well as to reflect on some of the triumphs of the past 25 years of ACT. The transformative work which we have carried out to educate children, empower women and enrich communities was celebrated through thought-provoking speeches and a prize giving. Those in attendance also had the opportunity to participate in an auction and a raffle draw, where a plethora of exciting prizes were won.
So far, the event has raised more than £3000 with more expected! In the lead up to our 25th anniversary celebrations, we set out the aim to raise £50,000 to provide education and welfare support for 250 disadvantaged children and orphans across the eight countries that we work in. The sum raised is an excellent contribution to this truly worthy cause.
We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who contributed to this fundraising event. The generosity from our donors never fails to astonish us. Although the pandemic and the ongoing cost of living crisis have put economic strain on many families, our donors’ support nevertheless remains unwavering. We would also like to extend a special thanks to Tony Sokan, the mastermind behind the event, who works tirelessly behind the scenes every year to ensure that it runs smoothly.
We can’t wait to see you next year, for another outstanding golf day and dinner event!
